BlueSkySea B2W Dash Cam Review

BlueSkySea B2W Dash Cam Review

The B2W dual dash cam from BlueSkySea is a 2 in 1 car camera that provides full video coverage of the front of your car as well as the inside cabin of your car. These kind of dash cams are often called “Uber cams” since they are often used by Uber drivers and other rideshare or taxi drivers because it has a second camera that can record their passengers.

Both cameras can record 1080p HD video. Each camera lens is mounted on a swivel that will rotate left to right. So if you were pulled over by the police and wanted to record the stop, you could rotate the camera lens to point at your drivers side window.

Video Quality

The B2W is a dual dash cam setup with 2 cameras in one main dash cam unit.

  • Front Camera – Records 1080p HD video (1920x1080p) using the Sony IMX307 STARVIS image sensor which are known for clear and crisp video quality during day and nighttime driving. The camera lens can swivel from left to right to point straight out front of your car or to either side of your car. It has a lens angle of 132 degrees, which is bit smaller field of view of some dash cams, but should be enough to provide full coverage of the road in front of you.

Front Camera Video Sample:

  • Interior Cabin Camera – The inside passenger facing camera has the same video specs as the main front camera, but has 4 infrared (IR) lights to give the camera full night vision so you can record passengers in total darkness. The 4 IR LED “lights” are not visible to the human eye.

Video Storage and Loop Recording

The BlueSkySea B2W dash cam uses a microSD card to store all of the video files. BlueSkySea often includes a memory card with their dash cams, but make sure you check to see if one is included with the one you buy. If you need to get one, make sure it is a “Class 10” microSD card. Most microdSD cards will be a Class 10.

The B2W supports a 400GB microSD card

The B2W uses “loop recording”, which means that once the memory card is full of video files, it will “loop” back around and start deleting the oldest video files. Each video file saved is only 1 to 5 minutes long, so you won’t be losing large chunks of video at a time.

Both front and interior cabin cameras save video on to the same memory card.

With a 400GB microSD card, you can record around 30 hours of video.

Parking Mode Options

There is a basic parking mode feature available on the B2W dash cam. When your car is parked and you’re away the dash cam can be set in parking mode that will begin recording if an impact is detected.

Using its built-in g-senor, it can detect a major impact, such as a hit and run in a parking lot.

The B2W does not have motion detection or other sophisticated parking mode features found on more expensive dash cams.

To use the parking mode feature you will need to use a hardwire kit that plugs into your fuse box to directly pull power from your car battery.

Built-In WiFi

With it’s built-in wifi you can remotely connect your smartphone or tablet directly to the BlueSkySea B2W car camera.

In order to use the wifi feature with the dash cam you will need to install the free iOS app for your iPhone or iPad, or the free Android app for Samsung and other Android devices.

Once your device is synced to the B2W dash cam you watch videos, download videos directly on to your phone or tablet and make dash cam setting changes.

If you don’t want to use this wifi feature you can watch videos, delete videos and make all the necessary setting changes in the main menu right on the 2 inch display on the back of the dash cam.

Rideshare & Taxi Features

The B2W is an ideal dash cam setup for any Uber, Lyft, Taxi or rideshare driver who wants to have video and audio documentation of their passengers for liability purposes.

While some other “Uber Dash Cams” have two cameras, some setups have two separate cameras and wiring, taking up far more space on your windshield. The B2W is a small and compact package, with both cameras in one unit.

With the 4 infrared lights and the Sony STARVIS image sensor, it makes it a good camera for recording backseat passengers who are often in low or no light.

By default the B2W will record audio and be able to pick up the voices of back seat passengers. Audio can easily be turned on or off with the push of a button located on the back of the dash cam.

Installing and Mounting the B2W

The B2W is a relatively small 2 in 1 dash cam. The most optimal place to adhere this to your windshield would be up and behind your rear view mirror so the top half of the dash cam, including the screen is hidden behind the rear view mirror and the 2 camera lenses are hanging out below in the open, making sure that the interior facing camera is not blocked by your car mirror.

Once you make all the setting changes in the menu area on the dash cam, it will run in auto-pilot, so there’s no need to be able to see the screen. It will give you an audible notice when you start your car that it has also started recording.

There are 2 mounts that come with the B2W, a suction cup mount and an adhesive mount.

The suction cup mount would be a good option for people switching cars who do not want to permanently install the dash cam. While these suction cup mounts work well for the most part, they can fall off over time. So if you plan on keeping the B2W installed in your car, we recommend using the adhesive mount, which is a sticky pad that will hold the dash cam securely in place.
