Full review of the small and discreet dashcam, the T1 from Goluk.
Goluk T1 dashboard camera shoots highly clear, full HD videos at 30 fps at a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels with its super wide angle, 152 degree lens without any distortion. The superior 6-layer glass lens is further powered by a powerful CMOS sensor and WDR technology to help you record high quality footage even in low light conditions. The unit features an ultra compact design and comes with quality warranty of 18 months.
Apart from standard dashcam features like G-sensor for auto detection and recording of incidents, loop recording for uninterrupted saving of files to memory card, etc., this mini dashcam unit has parking security, MagicKey remote button, and inbuilt support for Wi-Fi. You can install the free Goluk App for Android or iOS on your smart phone and use it to control the unit, play the recorded clips, and share them on social media. So, the camera unit basically has a minimalistic design with no complicated buttons and navigation options on the screen. This makes it extremely easy to operate.
Earlier, the Android app required hotspot connectivity to connect your phone to the unit but this has been fixed now. Just like the iOS app, the Android app now too connects without requiring the hotspot feature.
Except for the memory card, everything else you need to install and get the unit working (power cable, power adapter, docking station, remote key, routing clips, adhesive pads, etc.) is included in the package. You need to buy a microSD card separately and of course you should have a smart phone to use the app. Goluk T1 supports a TF microSD card of up to 64 GB and Samsung card of class 10 or above is recommended by the manufacturers; other brand cards may cause compatibility issue. View our dash cam memory card buying guide for the best card for this camera.
One of the outstanding features of this DVR unit is that it’s 360 degrees rotatable. So, you can conveniently turn the camera any side you want to focus on. Thus, it can even be used to record what’s going on inside the car. This can be a good option for car owners who also drive for Uber or Lyft and want to record inside their car. The camera can also be easily taken out from its windshield mount and used for any other recording inside/outside the car. The MagicKey remote button, when tapped, will record a 12 second long video and click one still photograph for you; for recording of longer duration, you can make use of the phone app.
The quality of daytime recording when compared with other dash cameras in the market is acceptable; you can read license plate numbers of cars within a range of 4-5 meters. But when it comes to low light performance, it leaves many of its competitors far behind.
Goluk T1 is powered by a super capacitor instead of a battery. So, it is long lasting and has solid heat resistance (read our article on why a capcitor based dash cam is better than a battery powered one). The working temperature ranges from 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. But still it’s better to remove the unit from the windshield when you are parking your vehicle. For the parking security feature to work, you will need to have a power bank and a voltage regulator cable.
This dashcam supports audio recording as well. If you want to mute the microphone, you can do it from the settings menu of the app. It however it does not have a GPS.
