HP F-500G Dash Cam Review

HP F-500 DashcamHP F-500G is an ultra wide angle lens, 1080p HD car dashboard camera with inbuilt GPS and G sensor for collision detection. The 140 degree lens with wide aperture gives solid performance even in low light conditions. You can choose to record videos either in 3 or 5 minute loops. Thus, you don’t have to go through lengthy clips while searching for a specific recording. The 3 axis G Sensor detects an incident automatically based upon motion and impact of the vehicle, and starts recording an incident on its own. It also locks the recorded incident file to protect it against relooping and unintended erasure. The GPS sensor automatically embeds the recording with various data like location, speed, and direction.

F-500G dash cam is extremely small in size and does not obstruct driver’s view while carrying out its functions. The video quality is great, and the wide lens ensures that edge to edge distortion is minimal. If you ever happen to drive through the city at night, you will be in for a pleasant surprise to see the lively colors of night lights being recorded with super clear resolution.

Installing this car camera is pretty easy. Just mount it on your vehicle’s windshield using the suction mounted bracket that comes with it. The default car power adapter cord is about 3.5 meters long, which is good enough to route it through any car the way you want. The dashcam starts recording automatically when you turn on the ignition; and likewise, it shuts down on its own when you switch off the engine. However, note that you will have to buy a memory card separately to save the recordings to. Officially, it supports MicroSDHC memory card of up to 32 GB but there are also users who have been using 64 GB card without any issues. If you go by the standard memory of 32GB, you can record videos for about 5 and half hours at one go before the camera starts relooping.

HP DashcamThere are two smart scene mode settings you can choose from – Driving Priority Mode and Scenery Priority Mode. The latter is especially helpful when you want to record beautiful scenery on the way while driving. The device also incorporates a Driver Fatigue Alert system.

F-500G is powered by a Lithium ion chargeable battery and as with nearly all dash cameras, the battery is not meant to be the main power source of the camera, just for quickly saving files when you turn your car off and it loses power from the car power adapter. For audio it comes with built-in microphone and speaker. Its operating temperature ranges from minus 20 degrees Celsius to plus 70 degrees Celsius. The display comprises of 2.4 inches TFT LCD screen, which is bright and clear. But for better viewing experience, you may want to playback the recorded clips on your computer after installing the SuperCar application that can be downloaded free of cost.
Since this is a passive device, there should not be any problem if you want to add a rear camera to it. However, there are chances of it interfering with the satellite signal reception due to rear screen antenna.

Overall, HP F-500G is a good dash cam for the low price and features a compact design, looks nice and performs well given the price point.
