The G1W-C is a capacitor based dashboard camera that does not require any battery for operation. It records high quality full HD videos at 1080P resolution, and features 120 degrees wide angle view and 4x digital zoom. The camera is equipped with night vision sensor and automatic motion detection. It is a ‘no touch’ dash cam that automatically turns on and off along with the ignition of your vehicle.
Capacitor model car cameras have certain advantages over their battery based counterparts. They consume less power, have higher heat resistance, and last longer. Yet another advantage is that the recorded files are instantly saved to memory with no risk of data loss. Usually it’s battery related issues that cause a camera to malfunction; with the usage of capacitor, this vulnerability is altogether eliminated.
G1W-C is a plug and play type device; so, setting it up is pretty easy. Using a swivel ball suction mount, you can attach it to any flat surface of your car. Once plugged in, it will automatically start when you start your car. So, there is no question of forgetting to switch it on in order to protect yourself.
Whenever there is any sudden impact, braking, acceleration or sharp cornering, The G-Sensor in the dashcam automatically senses it and the camera starts recording. Like most other dash cams, G1W-C too supports loop recording to overwrite the old footage when there is no more free space left in the memory card.
The camera supports Micro SD memory card of maximum 32 GB capacity (which you need to buy separately). If you record at a resolution of 1080 pixels, it’s good to go for 4 hours without relooping; and at a little less resolution of 720 pixels, it can record as long as 8 hours. Depending upon the settings, footage files can be 3, 6 or 10 minutes long.
You can play and watch the footage right on the camera screen which is 2.7 inches wide. Since it’s a flat LCD screen, viewing it from any angle should not be a problem. Navigation too is easy and convenient.
Thanks to the 12 Megapixel lens, WDR technology and advanced HD video compression, the video quality of G1W-C dash camera is extremely good. It records at 30 fps for 1080P resolution and at 60 fps for 720P resolution. Clarity of night videos is enhanced by the LED Night Vision feature.
The power cord that comes with the camera is however not that good. Several users have reported it going dead within few days of buying. So, if your camera too happens to go dead, don’t panic. Just replace the power cable and you should be able to bring it back to life. Sometimes, the power cord may also interfere with the FM radio reception. Again, replacing the power cord with USB cable should solve the problem.
If you are looking for a budget dash cam with clear and reliable recording, and are not after those additional frills and features like Wi-Fi and GPS, you can safely go with G1W-C. However, beware of the fakes and knockoffs that have been circulating online.
